Chiropractic Chiropractic is a healthcare discipline that emphasises the inherent recuperative power of the body to heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery. The practice of chiropractic focuses on the relationship between structure (primarily the spine) and function (as coordinated by the nervous system) and how that relationship affects the preservation and restoration of health. In addition, doctors of chiropractic recognise the value and responsibility of working in cooperation with other health care practitioners when in the best interest of the patient. Chiropractic is a natural approach to health and wellbeing. It works by removing interferences to your nervous system. The nervous system controls the whole body , controlling your digestion, breathing, heart rate, hormones and your immune system. The human body has it's own abitlity to heal itself if given the right conditions i.e. a properly functioning nervous system, adequate rest, exercise and nutrition. Having no pain does not mean that the spine is healthy or indeed that the body is healthy. A healthy spine has joints that move easily and no degeneration/arthritis. Moving joints are well nourished and can pump away waste products. For muscles and ligaments to be supple they also depend on this. Joints that do not move properly are called "Subluxations". They cause nerve interference which disturbs normal function throughout the body and can lead to many health conditions. Causes of subluxations are: physical, chemical and emotional. Your Chiropractor will remove subluxations by using adjustments to relieve pressure and irritation on sensitive nerves. This allows the nerves to transmit the correct messages to and from the brain for coordination, mental clarity and good health. Chiropractic also helps to remove aches and pains without medication to allow you to enjoy life to the full. There are various styles of Chiropractic. This clinic uses a wide range of modalities. Some include; Manual adjustments, Activator, Acupuncture, Kinesiology, Cranial techniques, Neuro-emotional technique, Sacro-occipital technique and Webster technique. These techniques are adapted to suit people of all ages and body types, from newborns & pregnant mums to the elderly. Your Chiropractor has spent 5 years full time at university doing a bachelor of Chiropractic Science then a 2 year postgraduate Master of Chiropractic. Upon consultation, we will work with your body to provide adjustments to best fit your individual needs. |
